Editor's Corner

Not much happening in the month of October except for a lot of fun at Andy Bradley's for the Tech Session. Not many wanted to actually winterize their cars as all seem to be driving year round. There was a nice tour of Andy's shop and lot of discussion and poking around Andy's MGB GT project car. Definitely some slick things there. lots of upgrades on the suspension and a V6 conversion kit that he is trying out. I willl be making a choice between a blower for my stock engine and a new transmissoin OR this V6, kit. If it works out for Andy anyway. Hurry up Andy so I can try it!

Listserv status: still working on it.

Presidents Corner - Tom Noel

I was just enjoying the new photos on the website. Way Cool! I will be at the Tech session on Saturday. I would like to see someone step to the plate for this next run. I don't know how to encourage more participation from the members. Frankly I am getting a little disappointed. The call went out in the last newsletter and it is on the website. What more can be done? I really don't understand what is going on. I target shoot during the winter months on Weds night and no one has to encourage me to attend. In fact, I pay bucks to participate. I don't get it. Being a member of a club and not showing up. I am not the type of person to beg participation or beat a dead horse. I do love driving my MG and talking about it. I like working on it too. I really thought that through the club I would meet more persons like myself. Sat I will have my windblocker on my car. I think people will find it interesting. Well made and it works. Maybe we can get some more pictures of individuals and their cars for the gallery.

Ladner-to-Bellingham All British Run - Sunday, November 7th

On Novemember 6th. Lyle and Francie will be heading up to the Ladner-to-Bellingham run. This is the last major British Run in 2004!

The first Ladner-Bellingham All British Run, organized by OECC’s Roy Wilkins, commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 1896Motor Car Tour to Brighton. The Tour celebrated the passage of the “Red Flag Act,” raising the speed limit from 4 mph to 14 mph andbrought great joy to automobile enthusiasts. The event soon became known as the London to Brighton Run and the 108th is onNovember 7, 2004. We celebrate the 108th anniversary of the first Motor Car Tour to Brighton with a 62 mile run (close to London-Brighton). As we gather early on the morning of the November 7, the oldest and slowest of the cars on the London-Brighton will befinishing their traditional journey in Brighton. The Ladner-Bellingham Run has become one of the major British automobile events in thePacific Northwest with as many as 90 cars participating.

There are two important parts of our Run. The first is the joy of the drive. We all enjoy getting our British cars out for a drive andour scenic backroads route will allow driver and navigator to enjoy the drive even as they enjoy the relative comfort of their “modern”English cars. Imagine the challenge of the cars of 1896, negotiating approximately the same distance, often in the rain! On our runyou will see everything from Austin 7 Chummys to both new and old Minis and Jaguars, with numerous Triumphs, Rovers, Wolseleys,Austins, MGs, Morgans, Austin-Healeys, Sunbeams, Morris, and others representing the classics of British automobile history.

The other important part of our Run is the camaraderie of other English car enthusiasts. There will be three opportunities tosocialize. The first is at the start; come early to allow time for a cup of coffee and to chat with friends old and new. The second willbe the convenient R&R stop at the half way point where we will regroup and everyone can refresh and socialize. The third opportunityis over lunch at the Sensa Restaurant on Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham where we think you will truly enjoy the dining experience. You have a choice of three lunch items (see below) and can linger over lunch as you enjoy the view of the Squalicum Marina.

Pre-register now to enjoy the drive and guarantee lunch at the Sensa! Day-of-event registrations will be welcome, but lunch cannot be guaranteed.

Check out the Carnut's photos of this run last year. Here are some photos from the 2000 run.

Project Santa Claus Tour

On November 14th, tour participants will meet in Bellingham near the Best Buys parking lot. 9:30am This is a fund raiser sposored by the Bellingham Police Department for needy kids at Christmas. The registration fee is a toy or a cash donation. It is open to any car. The cars will start leaving the parking lot at 10:00am, and will tour through Bellingham to the Ferry terminal in Fairhaven with a police escort. It’s a lot of fun, and you get to see some very nice cars. How often do you get a police escort through Bellingham, or any place for that matter? For more information you can call (360) 734-5060
