The July 25th Lyle and Francie Tour/Meeting

The business meeting was preceed by a tour, picnic, and ice cream social. The ice cream was great with a couple of different kinds of crushed nuts, two different chocolate sauces, butterscotch, and various other fixins. It was wonderful! Thanks to all who chipped in to sastify our ice cream hankerings!

Business Meeting

Eleven members were present for a short meeting which was graciously hosted by.Lyle & Francie Jacobson. President Tom Noel presided.

Votes were held to approve payment for the following:
  1. The Visa bill resulting from our the MG Car Club, Ltd. UK dues
  2. The costs for the ice cream and toppings at the social
  3. Reimbursement to Eric Hall for the $75 he paid to register the "mbmgcc.org" domain name for a period of three years.

Eric Hall reported that he has the new MBMGCC website up and running. Eric explained that he will maintain the website which will become and the online newsletter.

Frank brought up his concern regarding the lack of a reminders for events in his email box on a regular basis. Eric explained that email would really no longer be needed as folks could go the website anytime they wanted. After further discussion, Eric agreed a couple of deadlines would ensure that members could count on current material. Also, in order to facilitate all new information in one place, he agreed the all items sent to him for posting will be summarized in a newsletter format on the website and posted by noon on the last Saturday of each month. The deadline for getting information that will make the newsletter will be the 15th of the month. This may include coming events, tour information, pictures from past events, etc..

The summary for the newsletter will accommodate the members who do not have access to the website and require a paper copy to be mailed to them. Eric explained that the website was as much work as he was willing to take on and needed others to do the snail mailing and to provide the site's content. Tom suggested that either he could print the summary newsletter from the website and mail it to the snail-mail members or he will ask Bryce if this is something he wants to continue since this would be a significantly reduced responsiblity from the editor position he is wanting to pass on.

Frank was still concerned about not getting an email reminder about current events. Eric suggested that he would build and maintain a listserv that would allow for any member to send the list and reach all current members. This would eliminate any one member from having to maintain a personal list or copy of everyone's email addresses. A member would need only address his/her email to the listserv address to reach all the members. The listserv would be configured so that only club members will be able to send to the list. This feature will server to prevent unwanted emails from spammers.

Phone or home address’s will not be included on the listserv. The definitive, official member list will continue to be maintained by Francie in her role as the club secretary. Eric also stated that there was a need to be sensitive to member concerns for privacy. He said that the easiest way to deal with this would to be to communicate an opt-out policy to all members regarding the content he receives. He explained that this meant he would make the assumption that any and all content that was sent to him was free to be posted UNLESS the sender specifically noted portions that he/she did not wish to be published on the website.

Please send Eric information and/or pictures as the Oiler can only be as good as the content. Tech tips or questions about your MG, how to's, or how not to's are welcome!
