Presidents Corner

September 16th, 2004

Howdy MG Fans,

Well the weather was not the best but both of us went on the [Later Day Run] anyway. Heck, it was a perfect day to travel in British Sports Cars they seem to respond quite nicely to the event. Left about 0945 and meander through the country side via the back roads to Padilla Bay. Ended up at the Bay View state park. It was a little damp but the park was uncrowded. The bay itself was full of wildlife. Took my binoculars with me this time and enjoyed some bird watching. Very interesting. Came back up along the chuckanut. The skies turned a nice bright blue as the sun finally came out. The views of the bay were breathtaking. Traveled the wooded lane of Old Samish back around the lake to my house. Had a great BBQ that consisted of TriTip Steak cooked to order, I like mine a little pink in the middle. Boy they were tender and juicy. Sweet yellow corn on the cob buttered and salted to taste, baby red potatoes and baked season beans. Milk, light Ale, wine and or soda to drink! Dessert:

German Chocolate cake, Dove bars, or fruit. We had a great easy conversation round a cozy wood stove. Lunch was over and so was the run. I was so stuffed I didn't even have room for dinner that evening but I still ate dessert. See ya next time,

tom

Editor's corner

Wow, October is already around the corner! This job of keeping this site kinda current is way harder than I thought it would be. I appreciate the emails I am getting. I need more! <Off soap box> :-)

Events

I wasn't able to go on the Whistler run. My son is just starting college so I have been spending any last momets I can with him. Sitting in a half empty nest now. Wait a minute, that should be a half full nest :-) Anyway, our calendar says that today is the Early Fall Tour. No tour leader was available, so it has not happened. We still need someone for the Halloween run on October 16th. Please email Tom with a copy to me if you can do it.

Eric's Air Combat experience

In case any of you are wondering how I faired on my air combat training flight. I have a short video clip of the best dogfight if you want. There were six fights all together and it took a bit to learn the skills. It was a struggle avoiding air sickness too but, I managed to keep it in. The trick was to keep your eye on your opponent the whole time. Looking forward, or at the instruments, changes your mind's frame of reference causing vertigo. For those of you with dial-up connections (not cable or dsl), the clip might be a slow download as its size is ~5mb. You can dowload right here. You need a WMV player to view it. Windows Meda player can do that for to majority of us.. Mac users will have to download and install one. Sorry you guys :-(

MBMBCC Listserv

I still plan on having a listserv to which you all can direct your emails for the entire club. I have been having some technical difficulties. I think I know what is broken now and will try to fix it soon. I will let you all know when it is up and running.

Frank Travis Tidbit

Frank sent me an email a few days ago calling my attention to a Wall Street Journal article on September 17th, 2004. When I told Andy about it, he half jokingly told me not to tell anyone as it may affect his business. I weighed this along with my editorial duties to report the news, and the basic rules of journalism won out. So, here is Frank's two cents:

"Today's WALL STREET JOURNAL. Weekend Journal Section, features a long article 'The New Investment Vehicle' about the booming market for Classic Cars.  They divide cars, for investment purposes, into three classes: buy, hold and sell.  The 1954 MG-TF is the only MG on the list and is rated 'Sell'. It says Typical Price/High Price is $21,500/$27.800 and reports that the price has gone up only 14% in the last 5 years and 59% in the last 10 years.  Comments are: 'U.S. soldiers stationed in Europe discovered MGs, but newer MGAs and MGBs have a bigger following now than these tiny cars, with '20s throwback styling.'"

If you do not subscribe you may wish to see a copy and alert other 'T' owners to this article."

Up and coming events

October 2nd, 1-4PM Tech Session
"Putting your car to bed for the winter"

Andy Bradley will be putting his Austin Healey to bed and invites club members to bring their favorite MG or other British car who sleeps through the winter, and/or questions. Be prepared to get dirty. Directions to Bradley restoration are:

I-5 to the College Way Exit 227, head west to Freeway drive (towards Lowes and Dairy Queen), turn right and go all the way to the "T" in the road and take a left. Go almost to the sharp right and turn left and go along the right side of the yellow barn and then left to Andy's shop. The address is 14093 River Bend Road and the phone number is (360) 848-6279. See ya there!

The Halloween Run, October 16th

We still need someone to step up to the plate to lead this run. Please email Tom with a copy to me if you can do it.
